We know little about this last untouched tropical marine wilderness. Huge tides, ferocious currents, cyclones and the sheer remoteness of the Kimberley coast make researching the area a seemly impossible task. However, by providing scientists with local knowledge and our fleet of vessels, we help them in their quest to gain a better understanding of this unique environment. Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm is home to the Kimberley Marine Research Station (KMRS), a science hub for independent research on the region’s coastal and marine environments. This on-the-ground natural research venture is the brainchild of James Brown, a third generation pearl farmer. James grew up swimming, fishing and spearing in the local waters with his Bardi Jaawi friends. He left his homeland to complete his schooling and a degree in marine biology. Now, back home with his family, he is determined to discover more about the mysteries hidden beneath these Kimberley waters.
